It's been storming or else raining here since sundown, but everyone managed to keep their fireworks dry. The most spectacular display around here--and the closest of the large-scale displays--was in Bal Harbour, just across the Intracoastal. I watched that through to its booming, boisterous finale. Miami Shores also had a beautiful program, as always. But everywhere you looked, the sky was full of them, near and far, humble and grand. (And they're still going off, after 10:00.) (Bootsy slept through the whole thing.)
My least favorite fireworks are the green ones. Especially when mixed with red, they remind me too much of Christmas, and they don't make much of a statement. Give me red, white, blue, and purple (not necessarily in that order). The whites are probably my favorites.
UPDATE: Fireworks are still going off at 11:15 and there's a haze in the air from the smoke. At first I thought it was raining in the distance.
