Monday night

Got a lot accomplished this weekend--pretty labor-intensive, especially for a Labor Day weekend. I don't know what possessed me. Maybe it's knowing that the kitchen project is going forward again and that I won't be living in this mess interminably.

The terrace is all tidied up, the truck got an oil change and all fluids checked and tires inflated, I changed the sheets on the bed (getting a little cat-hairy), did some sweeping, mopped a floor, and more. It's difficult to sweep around here with everything in a state of upheaval, but I sweep what I can.

I'm certainly glad the levees in New Orleans are holding so far. I haven't seen any more news about Plaquemines Parish being flooded. I was watching CNN and MSNBC for hours today.

I was half-joking earlier about Holland and levees. At some point today, whether I saw it on TV or read it somewhere on the computer, they were talking about bringing people over from Europe to help shore up New Orleans. I would think it's about time, if we want to save New Orleans. Most of Holland sits below sea level and has been effectively staying above water for centuries. What do you think those windmills do? (Pump water.) Of course they also have state-of-the-art systems in place.

Tonight, after having dinner at McDonald's, I went to Jamba Juice and had a Peach Perfection while reading my New Yorker, and the bottom did drop out of the sky.
