Kitchen update here. Now there is a date (or possible dates) by which the work here will resume.
Hurricane Ike is passing south of us now. It's really gusty outside. This morning, when I heard on the local weather that we would be getting increasing stronger gusts throughout the day, I quickly removed all the items on the terrace that could blow over or take flight and still made it to work on time. (That's because I'm taking less time to brush my teeth -- the dentist says I brush too much.)
The wind roughing up the palms outside my window makes the conditions look worse than they really are. At around 8:00, I walked over to Starbuck's with my magazine, and all the umbrellas were still up (at the Jamba Juice, too). I sat and had a Zen green tea and then a small smoothie, reading about shoplifting in The New Yorker.
The cats were lying almost next to each other on the bed just a minute ago. I was going to take a picture but Lucky got down and came in here.
