I grew up here and am no stranger to the smell of the Everglades burning during the dry winter season, and the haze cast by the fires. Now it seems a little exaggerated. It's May already and there are fires burning all across Florida. We've had smoke here in Miami for almost a week.
Today after work, while I was standing at the bus stop, there were no clouds in the sky, only the smoke. And the smoke was so thick that you could look directly at the sun and behold a (rather puny) red ball. Amazing.
Meanwhile my eyes have been burning all week long.
