Don't write when you're drunk
I'm sorry, but this swooning over a guy's skin color just leaves me cold. This intoxication with the passive concept of "hope" is a snare and a delusion. The election is not a subject for exercises in creative writing, but for information, analysis and perspective.
There will be euphoria enough for everyone when Bush leaves office and the Democrats gain in Congress. Save the panegyrics for next year.

good stuff, but substance next time
gary ... this is a real love-feast ... and it's the candidate i want to be the next president. but, if the "establishment" talking points are that the man has no substance behind his flashy, maybe "manipulative," style ... why write a decent article about haiku's and talking mermaids? . . .

horrible graphic design
I haven't even read the article yet, but that image is really disturbing.

Oh, Gary
Does he walk on water too.

Magic!
Looking at the graphic, I half expected to hear Rush Limbaugh's "Barack The Magic Negro" song playing in the background. Missed opportunity, Salon - but nice job of biting on a Rush talking point. . . .

Hope Means the Possibility of Disappointment
of the symbolic as well as the tactical stakes in this election. But does the title of the article (maybe not written by Kamiya) deliberately evoke the "magic negro" phrase that has been popping up around his campaign? . . .

Not Everyone In Love with Obama
Obama fever is certainly spreading, and whatever merits the man may have are being magnified by a movement that bares more than a whiff of a personality cult. His followers are so caught up in their own vision of Obama's greatness that they don't seem to realize that their views are not shared by the vast majority of the electorate. . . .

Be prepared to be disappointed when your new love snores
Honestly, it's a election not the new mocha Messiah. If I had a dime for every electocrat who, we were promised, was the new landlord of the bright shining city on the hill and the dawn of new day, etc etc etc, I could buy an island for myself and make myself a god.

The Obama and Alchemy..
Alchemy isn't that when you turn bird shit into gold..?
That sounds like The Obama to me..

The Alchemy of Barack Obama
Very idealistic article. What America needs now is a healthy dose of moral fiber, not a spiritual event. Will our hero be able to bring that to the table? Time will tell.

Guilty conscience of white america
Obama's Iowa victory and possible win in NH is nothing but guilty conscience of few white liberals and statement by young generation X that they are not as racist as their previous generations. Anyone really believes that if Obama's father was white and Obama's name was Jim, John or Mike and Obama's was as white as John Edwards, he would really have any chance of winning Iowa or NH with the qualifications he brings to the table. He is a two year senator and has spend few years in Illinois senate. No corporation will hire him as a CEO. This looks like Jesse Jackson of 1988 all over again. At least Jesse Jackson won 11 contests including 7 primaries and 4 cacuses and later lost to Dukakis. White liberals will toy with Obama idea, feel good about themselves for sometime and then eventually the reality will set in which will be evident on Feb 5th.

Obama Is A Big Pussy
Yada, yada, yada. Too many liberals have no concept of what is going on. The Republicans have been kicking your ass and fighting dirty. They just punched you in the face and knocked your glasses off but you're convinced that they won't hit you now because everyone knows you don't hit a man whose glasses are off. Pathetic.
Grow the fuck up. Obama better get some balls if he gets the nomination or the Republicans will destroy him in the general. Barring that, Little George may just decide not to hand over the keys to the White House.
