I ended up shutting the cats in the bedroom for a few hours while the workers were here, since Lucky was snooping around and watching everything, and I was afraid he might get in the way or run out the front door, which the cabinet installers were keeping open.
When I let Lucky and Bootsy back out, Lucky had a look of bewilderment on his face, like "WTF?!" He no longer had his cabinets to jump up on. (He would sleep atop the highest cabinet when it was still sitting in the living room in its box.) (When Lucky first came here, on July 19th, the cabinets were already sitting in the living room and the kitchen had been demo'ed, so for him the change today was drastic--it was a strange world.) Here he is exploring. Bootsy remains unfazed, as always (not pictured).
The next step is to get the drywall repaired before the final electrical inspection and have the countertop people come in and take measurements or make a template or whatever they do.
I inspected the work and it's excellent. The only problem I see is that the pull-out spice rack cabinet (upper right) does not have a facing or overlay (compare it with the two cabinets beside it). I talked to the head installer about this before he left, and he said that yes, it didn't, and that apparently it hadn't been shipped. (They'd searched through all the boxes for it.) He said he was making a note of it and also told me to talk to the designer about it. He said he'll come back and install it once we get it.
The "high hat" lights were left uninstalled, i.e., dangling from the ceiling, so that the inspector can look at the wiring.
I'll take some more pictures later and post them on the kitchen blog. I've got so much more space now, and no space is wasted, as before (like in the corners). There's also a large, pull-out pantry (the one Lucky used to sleep on top of). I've even got little drawers by the stove (pictured). I'll put cooking utensils in those. And I'm pretty sure all of my spices will fit in the spice rack.
Lucky will love it once the countertops are installed. I can see him racing around the kitchen on top of them now.
