Local Story, Part II

Charity To Pick Up Mysterious Shoes Spilled On Miami Expressway

A nonprofit group will pick up the thousands of shoes that were mysteriously spilled on a Miami expressway last week and give them to people in Haiti.

Representatives from Soles4Souls, a Nashville-based charity, are expected to collect the shoes Tuesday afternoon.

The Florida Highway Patrol said thousands of work boots, bath slippers, tennis sneakers, beach sandals, even pairs of inline skates, inexplicably materialized Friday morning during rush hour on the Palmetto Expressway. Traffic was disrupted for hours.

A private contractor was hired to pick up the shoes and deposit them in an empty field. The investigation into who discarded the shoes continues.

Story plus video here. Only in Miami, as they say.
